It’s no wonder the charming town of Ridgefield is at the top of our list. This city of nearly 25,000 people saw less than 90 total reported crimes, and only one violent crime. Nestled against the foothills of the Berkshires, Ridgefield was the site of a battle during the Revolutionary War, so there’s a lot of history in this fun town.
There are still reminders of that battle in the British cannonball lodged in the side of the Keeler Tavern Museum and a small cemetery that marks the final resting place of both British and American soldiers on Main Street. Preserving its important history is paramount to the city of Ridgefield, and one of the things that inspires its citizens to band together to make sure their city remains safe, welcoming, and the perfect balance of New England charm and modern America.
